LEARN ABOUT US
For over over 20 years, we’ve been making English country furniture here in Derbyshire. Our small team of skilled craftsmen take pride in using only traditional methods to ensure each and every piece has a personal touch. This year we are excited to announce that we are working with some of Britain’s top furniture designers to bring to market some truly exceptional pieces.
Thomas Hotchkiss founded the company in 1994 after serving his apprenticeship with “Chapel House Turnery”in Tideswell, Derbyshire. It’s always been his priority to provide a personal touch and he is still the main contact from sales through to delivery.
Thomas likes to understand each and every customer’s individual requirements to ensure their vision is brought to life, no matter how bespoke.
We mainly source our oak and ash from a traditional sawmill in Herefordshire where we select the very best trees for our work. The ash needs to have a good straight grain so that it will steam and bend properly and our oak is selected for beauty. Whether you like traditional country furniture or something with a contemporary twist, we can help. We can also make bespoke furniture based on your unique vision to fit the interior style you’re looking for.
ENVIRONMENTALLY CONCIOUS
As an environmentally conscious company, solar energy helps to power the workshop and offcuts and shavings provide warmth for the workshop. All materials are also sourced here in the UK from woollen fabrics made in Yorkshire to brass handles made in Birmingham. The timber that Hotchkiss Furniture source is also FSC Certified and grown in Britain where possible.
The company prides itself on using traditional machinery, steering away from more modern technology. They work with British made machines from that post war era when companies such as Robinson, Wadkin, Rye and Fells of Windermere produced the finest tools in the world. This enables Thomas to ensure that every item has a handcrafted look and feel, adding to the personal touch that is so important to him.
